After a failed attempt back in his hometown of Birmingham, Hill was again on the move - this time to London to seek his fortune once more. Showing a level of ingenuity required to succeed, Hill set up a betting shop in central London when the practice was still technically illegal.

    By only accepting credit and establishing himself as a postal betting service, Hill managed to avoid the attention of the authorities.
